등대처럼 고요히 들판을 비추는 방문자 센터 Chateau Gruaud-Larose_ 샤토 그뤼오 라로즈

프랑스 생쥘리앵 베슈벨(Saint-Julien-Beychevelle)의 한적한 시골마을에 이색적인 타워형 건물이 들어섰다. 드넓게 펼쳐진 너른 포도밭을 배경으로 높이 21m로 우뚝 솟아있는 샤토 그뤼오 라로즈(Chateau Gruaud-Larose)는 멀리서 바라볼 때 사뭇 호기심을 자아내기에 충분하다. 공사가 한창 진행되는 와중에 건물의 모습을 보고 보르도 북쪽의 메독(Medoc) 지방에서 가장 높은 비둘기 집이라는 소문이 날 정도였다.

그뤼오 라로즈의 대저택 소유주는 보르도의 건축가 Sarl Lanoire & Courrian에게 방문자들을 위한 리셉션센터, 부티크, 테스팅룸을 포함한 건물 설계를 요청했다. 건축가는 대지 레벨의 한 면은 녹지를 다른 한 면은 포도밭을 바라볼 수 있는 46×9m의 크기의 유리로 된 직방형의 방문자센터를 계획하였다. 땅의 수평적 흐름을 쫓아 넓게 구획된 지층부는 그 안정된 매스만큼이나 경쾌함을 유발하고 있다. 외관은 콘크리트 구조에 투명한 유리를 사용하여 개방감을 극대화하고 있다.

지층부 상부는 그물 패턴의 스테인리스 재질이 표면 질감을 부드럽게 덧대어지고 타워부까지 그 재료의 연속성을 이어간다. 이 그물망을 통해 타워부 전망대로 이어지는 두 계단은 부드럽게 속살을 비추고 있다. 전망대는 360도 주변의 풍경을 두루 감상할 수 있으며, 자동셔터를 통해 한껏 개방된 창을 통해 방문자들은 마법 같은 순간을 지속하게 만든다. 셔터가 닫히면 타워부는 그 자체로 건물의 일부가 되고, 밤이 되면 그 자체가 마치 등대처럼 주변 들판에 고요하고 신비로운 정취를 드리운다. ANN

There is now a tower overlooking the countryside in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, at Gruaud Larose. This is 21 meters tall, has an overhang, and is built in a harmonious style with right angles. It appears enigmatic when seen from afar. While it was being built, some people said that this would be tallest palombiere(wood pigeon hunting hide) in the Medoc…. The owners of Chateau Gruaud Larose asked Bordeaux architects Sarl Lanoire & Courrian to design a new building to house a visitor reception center, boutique, and tasting room. The project consists of a rectangular parallelepiped building 46 meters by 9 meters set into a natural slope.

This houses a visitor reception centre with plate glass windows on one side overlooking the park and on the other side looking out onto the vines, both with a ground level view. The mineral and vegetated roof of this concrete structure rises up from the slope as though it were an extension of the grounds. The 21-meter tall observation tower overlooks this pedestal-like building located at its extremity that fits in so well with the park. The appearance close-up is very attractive, featuring two staircases decorated with a mirrored polish finish stainless steel mesh pattern providing access to the platform on top of the tower. This sparkles and reflects the surrounding landscape.

Traditionally, the high point of visits to the chateau was the panoramic view from the tower encompassing the Gironde estuary and the entire Gruaud Larose vineyard, located in a single block around the chateau. The observation tower perpetuates this magic moment for visitors thanks to a 360 degree view available thanks to automated shutters that open up all along the periphery. When closed, these mirrored polish finish stainless steel blinds blend into the facade. The tower thus seems very mysterious and luminous at night, like a lighthouse in the vines. This sensual project is embedded in the Medoc gravel, taking off towards the vines and the sky, with a view of the vines, the prestigious Gruaud Larose estate, and the estuary.
