아르데코 시대의 풍부한 디테일과 대담한 기하학적 구조를 재해석한 'W 마카오 스튜디오 시티 2단계(W Macau Studio City, Macau, China)'

40층이 넘는 557개의 호텔 객실과 스위트룸, 카페, 레스토랑, 수영장, 스파, 피트니스 및 투숙객을 위한 녹음 스튜디오로 구성

세계적인 건축그룹 자하 하디드 아키텍츠(ZHA)가 설계한 W 마카오 스튜디오 시티 리조트 2단계가 개장했다. W 마카오는 40층이 넘는 557개의 호텔 객실과 스위트룸, 카페, 레스토랑, 수영장, 스파, 피트니스 및 투숙객을 위한 녹음 스튜디오 등을 갖추고 있다. 전체적인 객실 디자인은 클래식 영화와 마카오의 오래된 해상 역사에서 착안해 내부 공간을 꾸몄다. 객실 규모는 37㎡에서 258㎡로 구성되며, 38층에 위치한 익스트림 WOW 스위트는 270도의 높다란 창문과 원형 침대, 포르투갈 양식의 다이닝 공간이 눈길을 자아낸다. 특히 방문자 데스크에 적용한 하얗고 푸른 파도가 휘몰아치고 미려한 해변 풍경의 벽면, 해저 풍경을 담아낸 미러 천장은 특별하다.

스튜디오 시티 리조트는 지난 2015년부터 마카오 타이파섬과 콜로아느섬 사이에 있는 매립지인 코타이 지구에서 운영해왔다. 이후 2017년 리조트의 확장을 위해 ZHA를 통해 스튜디오 시티 2단계 설계를 진행했다. 스튜디오 시티 2단계는 아시아 최대 규모의 실내 워터파크와 대규모 회의 공간을 포함해 새로운 레저와 엔터테인먼트, 접객시설을 두루 갖추어 새롭게 탈바꿈했다.

ZHA측은 스튜디오 시티 2단계 디자인을 진행하면서 아르데코 시대의 풍부한 디테일과 대담한 기하학적 구조를 재해석하고 장인 정신이 묻어나는 공간을 구현해 내었다. 할라우드 스타일에 영감을 받고 건물의 입면에 동서문화와 역사, 자연의 아름다움을 효과적으로 반영하고자 했다. 역동감이 물씬 전해지는 다이내믹한 외관에서 잘 드러나듯 호텔 타워의 수직성을 드러내는 외부 핀과 3가지 다른 그라데이션 유리로 구성된 단열 유리 유닛과 차광핀은 태양열의 흡수와 눈부심을 줄여주는 기능을 한다. 이렇듯 스튜디오 시티 2단계는 고성능 건물 외피와 고효율의 에너지 시스템을 통해 영국 친환경 건축물 인증 제도인 BREEAM Asia Awards 2021에서 수상하기도 했다.

15헥타르 보호 습지로 구성된 마카오 코타이 생태구역과 인접한 스튜디오 시티 2단계 개발은 타원형 타워의 방향성과 기존 식물군에 대한 보존 조치, 마카오 기후에 적합한 자생종의 식재, 자연환기를 반영한 리조트 내부 구성 등을 통해 지속가능한 건축의 흐름을 제시하고 있다. ANN

One of two new hotels to open within Phase Two of the Studio City Resort by ZHA, the W Macau incorporates 557 hotel rooms and suites over 40 floors together with cafés, restaurants, pool, spa, gym and recording studio for guests.

Located in the Cotai district of Macau, the Hollywood-inspired Studio City resort has welcomed guests and visitors to the city since 2015. Appointed in 2017 to expand the resort, ZHA designed Studio City Phase Two with new leisure, entertainment and hospitality facilities including one of Asia’s largest indoor water parks and extensive meeting spaces. Studio City Phase Two’s design is informed by the existing resort’s cinematic references with a contemporary reinterpretation of the rich detailing, bold geometries and intricate craftsmanship of the Art Deco period.

Composed of three different gradations of glass with external fins that delineate the verticality of the hotel towers, the insulated glazing units and shading fins reduce solar heat gain and glare while maintaining thermal comfort for guests and staff. Winner of the BREEAM Asia Awards 2021, Studio City Phase Two’s high-performance building envelope together with new high-efficiency services will reduce energy demand throughout the resort.

Environmental site assessments determined the composition of Studio City Phase Two’s development away from the 15-hectare protected wetland of the adjacent Macau Cotai Ecological Zone. The orientation and configuration of the elliptical towers have been calculated to facilitate natural ventilation within and around the resort. The project’s ecologist developed preservation measures for the site’s existing flora together with compensatory planting of native species compatible with the climate of Macau.
