2802 Pico Housing, 다리, 보도, 계단이 절묘하게 어우러진 거주자와 보행자를 배려한 도시 환경

산타 모니카의 상업 중심지에 있는 자동차 작업장과 함께 기존에 활용되지 않았던 대지에 적절한 가격의 주택을 제공하는 프로젝트이다.

피코하우징은 피코와 28번가의 코너를 더욱 생동감 있는 공간으로 만들기 위해 보행자 중심의 도시 환경을 제공함으로써 거주자들의 생활은 물론 이웃과 도시에 공헌하고자 한 작업이다.

남측 파사드의 틈은 보행자에게 접근성을 제공하고 내부 정원과 인근 도로와의 연결을 매끄럽게 이어준다. 동쪽에 위치한 2층 규모의 커뮤니티 공간은 매스를 나누는데 일조하며, 바닷바람이 자연적으로 통풍되도록 하였다.

정원 공간은 소통의 심장부로서 단지 내의 상호작용을 꾀하며, 다리, 보도, 계단의 배열을 서로 절묘하게 묶어낸다. 다채로운 정원은 거주자들을 위한 여가공간과 사회적 공간을 제공함과 동시에 도시 밀집도를 완화시키는 역할을 한다.

내부 정원으로부터 보이는 것처럼 건물은 세 개의 볼륨으로 구성되며, 각각의 볼륨들은 하나의 작은 타운처럼 조화롭게 구성되어 있다. 디자인은 가급적 경제성을 강조하고 건물의 색상은 고밀도의 건물에서 느껴지는 시각적인 볼륨을 줄이는 방향으로 계획되었다.

단순하지만 팔레트를 연상시키는 마감재는 대지, 기후, 디자인 개념에 의해 선택된 풍부한 색상 내에서 외장재로써 다양한 색상의 시멘트 섬유 보드 패널들을 이용하였다. 도로에서부터 보이는 건물 외관은 시트러스 옐로우와 비비드 오렌지를 포인트로 주면서 대부분 하얀색, 올리브 그린으로 구성된다. 조경 디자인의 경우, 두 가지 컬러 내에서 직물 패턴의 콘크리트 포장이 특징이다. ANN
