8개의 큐브형 매스가 엇갈리듯 쌓아올려 구현된 수직적 주거 단지

덴마크 코펜하겐의 큐빅하우스(Cubic Houses)

덴마크 코펜하겐에 들어선 큐빅하우스는 총 연면적 8.000㎡에 10층 규모의 공동주택이다. 겉으로 드러난 쾌적한 주거 단지의 환경에서 알 수 있듯 큐빅하우스는 8개의 큐브형 매스를 랜덤하게 쌓아올린 형태를 자아낸다. 이는 새로운 개발 환경에 대응한 도시 생활의 자유로운 구상과 보다 큰 면적을 원하는 고객의 희망을 절충한 시도이다.

제법 큼지막한 8개의 개별 큐브는 각각 5층 규모이며 남북으로 길게 이어져 서로 절묘하게 층을 이뤄 겹쳐있다. 당초 2개로 불규칙하게 나눠진 대지의 성격에 맞추어 건축가는 수직적인 4개의 직방형 매스를 세웠다. 설계가 진행되면서 4개의 매스는 다시 8개로 분할되어 현재의 형태가 된 것이다. 각각의 큐브형 매스는 서로 앞뒤로 돌출되기도 하고, 일부는 합쳐짐으로써 다이내믹한 공간 구성을 엮어내었다.

큐브를 구성하는 안정적인 외관은 새롭게 개발되는 주변의 도시 흐름과 조화를 이루기 위해 시도된 적극적인 디자인이다. 외부 마감은 톤이 다른 벽돌로 구성되어 건물 전체에 입체감을 부여한다. 건물 사이에는 층마다 일부 공간을 비워둠으로써 동서쪽으로의 소통을 여유롭게 이어주게 된다.

큐브 하우스 주변에 조성된 녹지와 수변 공간은 건물과 조화를 이루며 활기찬 마을 분위기를 만들어준다. 아파트 내부 공간은 기본적인 레이아웃을 통해 되도록 단순하면서도 넓게 디자인되었다. 내부에 마련된 수직 계단을 통해 위층으로 이동할 수 있다.

네덜란드의 코펜하겐을 기반으로 활동하는 건축가그룹 ADEPT는 스튜디오 창립 파트너인 Anders Lonka, Martin Krogh 및 Martin Laursen이 건축가, 조경가, 엔지니어 및 도시 기획자 팀과 함께 이끌고 있다. ADEPT는 건축적 관대함을 자신들의 창조와 혁신의 도구로 삼고 지속가능하면서도 세상을 바꿀 수 있는 창의적인 아이디어를 선보이고 있다. ANN
