기하학적 녹색 지붕 구조로 인해 탄생한 비정형 건축

고성의 맥락성과 풍경의 일부가 되고자 한 레제크네 크리에이티브 서비스센터(Zeimuls, Centre of Creative Services of Eastern Latvia)… 기하학적 녹색 지붕 구조로 인해 탄생한 비정형 건축의 좋은 본보기로 여겨져

라트비아 동부의 레제크네 도시에 위치한 레제크네 크리에이티브 서비스센터는 마치 동화 속에서나 나올 것 같은 신비로운 외관으로 눈길을 자아낸다. 라트비아를 근간으로 활동하고 있는 건축디자인스튜디오 SAALS 아키텍츠에 의해 디자인된 건물은 어린이와 청소년들을 위한 창조적이고 혁신적인 공간으로 계획되었다. 건물은 총 4,400㎡ 면적에 6층 규모이며 지붕은 녹지로 덮여 있는 것이 특징적이다.

건축가는 오래 전 레제크네 성 옆에 살았던 왕의 딸 로제에 대한 전설을 모티브로 땅 속에 연필을 박아 두고 아이들이 현명하게 자랄 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 하였다.

건물은 고대와 중세의 오래된 유산인 레제크네 성의 마운드와 마주하고 있다. 많은 관광객들이 찾는 유적 주변에 들어서는 건물인 만큼 디자인은 가급적 땅 깊숙이 박혀 언덕과 조화를 이룬다는 것에 주안점을 두어 계획되었다. 이렇게 하여 다양한 지형 레벨을 수용하고 삼각 형태의 조합을 통해 탄생한 기하학적인 녹색 지붕 구조가 돋보이는 창의적인 건물로 탄생되게 되었다.

건물의 외관을 구성하는 콘크리트와 석고, 목재의 마감은 마치 땅이 융기하여 솟아난 노출된 암석을 연상케 한다. 지면을 통해 다이내믹하게 솟아 올라간 불규칙하고 연속된 지붕 구조는 공간 속에 머무는 아이들을 안전하게 보호하는 듯하다. 이 특별한 지붕구조로 인해 생겨난 내부 공간 역시 노출콘크리트의 기하학적 천창과 변화무쌍한 창의 흐름을 보여준다. 이와 대조적으로 내부의 평면은 반듯하고 계획적인 직사각형 방식으로 공간을 깔끔하게 정리시키고 있다. 성의 주변을 에워싸듯 들어선 건물의 배치 형상은 크고 작은 2개동으로 구성되며 그 건물과 지붕의 생김새에 따라 복잡하게 엮여 있는 외부 동선의 흐름을 보여준다.

좁고 길고, 레벨감 있게 처리된 길과 계단은 전체적인 동선을 내외부로 연결시킨다. 건물 주변의 조경 역시 지붕에 쓰였던 기하학적인 원칙이 그대로 적용되어 불규칙한 콘크리트와 녹색의 표면으로 되어 있다.

이렇듯 레제크네 크리에이티브 서비스센터는 고성과 더불어 건물 그 자체가 풍경의 일부가 되어 녹아있다. 불규칙한 건물의 형상이지만 고성과의 관계성을 충분히 고려하고 건물 자체가 지형의 일부처럼 보이게 만듦으로써 사뭇 정리된 시선으로 다가온다. 자라나는 아이들을 위한 창의적인 공간인 만큼 건축 틀 역시 정형화된 형태에서 탈피하여 파격적인 구성을 시도한 것이다. 그 신선한 접근을 통해 탄생한 공간은 어찌 보면 상상 속의 전설이 그대로 살아 돌아 온 듯한 동화 같은 이야기가 담겨있는 듯하다.

건물은 역사적인 성과 더불어 공존하는 한적한 마을에 들어선 6,000㎡의 작은 건물임에도 불구하고 2015년 미스 반 데어 로에 상에 노미네이트(Nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2015)되기 까지 하며 그 독창성을 인정받았다. 주변의 맥락성을 튼실하게 엮어가고자 한 이 실험적이면서도 참신한 건축적 시도는 최근 디자인 흐름에 선도적이면서 긍정적인 본보기로 작용한다. ANN

The World culture heritage is linked with some sense of heaviness, thick books and deep knowledge. Narrowing the world culture heritage down to the personal experience of an architect some examples of how the world architecture heritage can have an impact on the architecture created by SAALS can be mentioned. Especially influential for architect Rasa Kalniņa, SAALS are three phenomenons – Egypt Pyramids, Architecture by Gaudi and Indian Vastu Shastra. It is the unusual form development that inspired her to study the architecture. Gaudi was a live proof that it is possible also that way – differently! Sensitive, unusual, connected with nature and beyond the society limits – that is Gaudi architecture, although very unique, it is already a part of world culture heritage. The Vedic knowledge has let Vastu Shastra to touch the fine structure of shape a little closer. To create the shape by understanding the prime elements composing the shape and the flows of energy those have an impact on the interaction between a person and the shape. To refine not just the shape and function, but also the harmony with natural forces, to form the soul of the building. Senses, feeling, integration in the environment, uniformity – the soul of the building is one of the important architectural aspects for Studio SAALS. Another aspect of the same importance for the architectural Studio is the design, sculpturalism. The works by Mies van de Rohe has a great impact on Maris Krūmiņš, SAALS architectural insight with their simple, elegant language of shapes, details and proportions. In the best case architecture is formed from one material as a large scale sculpture. All the stages are equally important- how the Project is developed, how the building is erected, how does it functions and how it grows old. These days – even how the building looks like in Google Earth. All projects by SAALS are brought together by synergy of the soul and beauty in the architecture, clean and organised shape.
