원형 직물 구조물이 연출하는 환상적이고 추상적인 세계, ‘원더 월(wonderWALL)’

2만개에 달하는 희고 검은 직물이 원형 구조물을 토대로 줄무늬 형태로 길게 늘어서 있는 형상

원더월(wonderWALL)은 리스본의 콜롬보 쇼핑몰 내에 설치된 전시 공간이다. 약 2만개에 달하는 희고 검은 직물이 원형 구조물을 토대로 줄무늬 형태로 길게 늘어서 있는 형상이다. 이 임시 전시관은 인터랙티브 조각가인 젠 르윈(Jen Lewin)이 제작한 작품인 ‘더 풀(The Pool)’을 내부에 놓고 작품을 에워싸는 구조물을 실험성과 혁신성을 보여주는 포르투갈의 건축스튜디오 LIKEarchitects가 디자인한 것이다.

외부에서 볼 때 전시물을 에워싸는 원통형 구조물을 통해 예술작품의 구심성은 더욱 강조되며 공공장소의 기류와 함께 끊임없이 진동한다. 투과성을 가진 외관에 의해 공간의 출입구는 분산되며 방문객들이 공간을 찾고자 하는 의지에 따라 입장할 수 있다는 행동의 의식을 불러일으킨다. 방문객들이 추구하는 자유로운 움직임에 대한 물리적 장벽이 없다는 것은 더욱 흥미로움을 유발시키고 있다.

전시 구조물은 중앙홀의 상부 채광창에 매달려 있으며 지름 14m에 4m 높이로 설치되었다. 길고 가느다랗게 늘어진 패브릭으로 둘러싸인 외부에서는 내부로부터 은은하게 새어 나오는 다채로운 빛의 흐름을 엿볼 수 있다.

전시 구조물의 범위는 원형 직조 스크린의 범위로 한정되며 흰색 돔의 형태로 전시 작품 ‘The Pool’을 강조하는 역할을 맡는다. 인터랙티브 조명예술품을 특징화한 전시 디자인이 만들어내는 화려하면서도 경이로운 공간은 방문객들을 환상의 세계로 인도하기에 충분하다. ANN

LIKEarchitects is a Portuguese-based multidisciplinary office, headed by Diogo Aguiar and João Jesus, which focus in art and architecture, specializing in temporary interventions, urban provocative structuresandinnovativearchitecturalsystems.
