Skovbakken, EDUCATIONAL ARCHITECTURE AT EYE LEVEL WITH ITS STUDENTS

주변 환경과 조화롭고 지역 주민들과의 공존을 추구한 덴마크 오데르의 스코프바켄 초등학교

트랙을 형상화한 동적인 조경 공간과 입체적으로 연속된 경사 지붕의 절묘한 건축적 조합이 돋보여...

덴마크의 오르후스 인근의 오데르 지역에 연속된 경사 지붕을 한 특별한 초등학교가 들어섰다. 9300㎡ 면적에 2층 규모의 건물은 주변의 맥락을 고려하여 설계된 것이 특색 있다.

건물의 설계는 덴마크의 대표적인 건축회사인 CEBRA가 맡아 진행했다. CEBRA는 650명의 학생이 자유롭게 학습할 수 있는 최적의 교육 환경을 마련하고자 했다. 풍부한 자연환경을 품고 있는 지역성을 기반으로 동서측으로 길게 다방향성을 가진 독특한 평면을 구획했다. 중앙에 경사지게 마련된 아트리움을 중심으로 교실과 체육시설, 부대시설 등은 적절히 분포되어 합리적으로 자리를 잡고 있다. 박공형 지붕과 경사 지붕이 결합된 다이내믹한 입면 구성은 학교 전체 공간에 활력을 불어넣는 요소다. 연속된 건물의 중간에 입체적으로 결합된 박공형 매스와 사선으로 마감된 벽면은 볼륨감 있는 건축미를 만들어준다. 경사면이 만나는 지붕 틈의 일부는 별도의 톱라이트를 두어 내부 공간에 밝고 쾌적함을 이끈다. 아트리움의 확장된 계단은 2층 데크로 연결되고 자연스럽게 학생들이 교류하고 이동할 수 있는 커뮤니티 공간이 형성된다.

CEBRA의 창립 파트너인 건축가 카르스텐 프림달(Carsten Primdahl)은 “기존 학교를 대체하고 인간적인 스케일과 건축 양식, 주변의 녹지와 조화를 이룰 수 있는 환경 친화적인 건물을 구현하고자 했다”고 밝힌다.

건축가 카르스텐 프림달의 말처럼 스코프바켄 스쿨은 학교 주변을 아우르는 공공의 숲과의 특별한 경계가 없다. 크고 작은 4개의 동심원을 대지 기반으로 삼고 그 위에 입체적인 경사 지붕형 건물을 얹힌 것이다. 새롭게 지어진 학교 건물이지만 기존에 조성된 녹색 환경에 녹아들어 있는 듯하다. 건물을 시공할 때도 가능한 많은 나무를 원형 그래도 보존하고자 했다. 일부 줄여야 할 몇 그루의 나무는 가구로 재사용되어 건물의 입구와 내부 계단으로 활용했다. 각각의 건물 군과 외부 공원과의 연결은 제법 많게 인식되는 창과 문을 통해 이어지며, 2층에서는 독립 계단을 통해 공원으로 내려갈 수 있다.

자못 복잡하게 느껴질 수 있는 학교 전체 건물은 운동을 위한 트랙 안에 꾸며져 있어 신선하다. 학교에서 벌어지는 일상생활의 자연스러움을 운동과 연계시켜 디자인한 것이다. 건물 외부 공간을 크고 매끄럽게 이어주는 트랙은 녹지와 어우러진 산책길인 동시에 학생들의 신체 활동을 돕는 유효한 장치가 된다. 아트리움과 맞다 있는 멀티 체육관 역시 학생들을 위한 활동적인 놀이와 운동 영역으로 활용된다.

CEBRA는 201년 미켈 프로스트(Mikkel Frost), 카르스텐 프림달(Carsten Primdahl), 콜리야 닐센(Kolia Nielsen)이 설립한 건축사무소이다. CEBRA는 덴마크 오르후스와 UAE 아부다비에 사무실을 두고 있으며 박물관, 문화센터, 학교, 관광안내센터 등 대규모 공공 프로젝트의 건축 업무를 수행하고 있다. CEBRA가 선보이는 사용자를 위한 민주적이면서 다양한 건축적 표현이 잘 말해주듯 스코프바켄 초등학교에는 그들이 추구하는 현대적인 스마트스쿨과 지속가능한 학교 건축 어휘가 잘 적용되고 있다.

At Skovbakken in Odder, near Aarhus in Denmark, students and teachers welcome their new school. A school that, in addition to being the biggest investment in a new building in Odder Municipality, is designed based on a human scale with recognisable motives such as pitched roofs - and supports modern education and teaching. A school inspired by the local context


Skovbakken is a primary school for 650 students. The new building replaces an existing school and is in its scale, its architectonic expression and in its materials inspired by its surroundings: the neighbourhood and the public forest.

“The school is designed as a two-storey building inspired by the existing context. We decided to use pitched roofs and a

human scale that ensures identification for the students and the inhabitants in Odder”, explains founding partner at CEBRA, Carsten Primdahl. He continues: “We have preserved as many of the original trees as possible as they convey a soft transition to the green surroundings. The few trees we had to cut down have been reused in the interior as furnishings. In addition, wooden sections accentuate all entrances and in the interior the striking staircase is also made of wood. In this way the physical contact with the architecture is communicated through the pleasant and stimulating material - wood", concludes Carsten Primdahl.

The experience of a welcoming school is emphasised in the school's layout as three structures which are oriented towards a central atrium, opening up to the surroundings and establishing many diverse and interesting landscaping and building spaces, both in the exterior and in the interior.

The school has a special focus on exercise as a natural part of daily life. Thus, for example, the fire access routes in the common areas are designed as tracks for exercise, in each classroom there is an area designed specifically for physical activity and the school's multi-gym is directly linked to the school's common room, allowing the gym to be used as an active play and movement area during breaks.

CEBRA KNOWLEDGE ARCHITECTURE CEBRA has extensive experience with what we call knowledge architecture. Architecture that encourages dialogue, democratic architecture that opens up to the world around it with an expression of diversity and which understands students and how they learn. In addition to Skovbakken, the office has built a number of prestigious projects, both internationally and nationally. Recently, CEBRA participated in a series of school competitions, and in 2016, the office won several international architectural competitions such as Smart School (RUS) and Sustainable School (UAE).
