ANN

Winning best ‘Contemporary Design Piece’ at the 2012 Pavilion of Art + Design in London, the Liquid Glacial coffee table encapsulates the tension between movement and stasis. Gentle waves and ripples move beneath the flat surface of the table-top, while its legs pour from the horizontal in a dramatic vortex of water that seems frozen in time. The transparent acrylic amplifies this perception, adding depth and complexity through a kaleidoscopic display of light and infinite refractions. The result is a beautiful object that inherits a myriad of colours from its surroundings, and continually adapts to changing viewpoints. It is also available as a dining table.
Referencing Zaha Hadid’s process, with each new project, ZAHA HADID DESIGN (ZHD) continues to examine its significance within the dialogue of contemporary design by interpreting both the present and the future, and by continuing to share Hadid’s story.
ZHD, which is led creatively by co-Directors Maha Kutay and Woody Yao, has an extensive cross-disciplinary portfolio which includes design in fashion; jewellery; furniture and finishes; interiors; exhibitions; installations; sculpture; and set-design.
“The strength of the collection lies in our ability to interpret the ordinary into something unexpected. When designing objects Zaha was never constrained by any given use or spatial context. We continue to follow and draw strength from this approach so that the collection has room to evolve without compromising the integrity of the design.”
When speaking about the ZHD Collection - the own label of design objects launched by Hadid in 2014, Yao and Kutay explain: ZHD also operates the Zaha Hadid Gallery in London, UK which examines her work across all scales, and which is host to temporary exhibitions featuring emerging designers, as well as a venue for product launches, lectures, and performances rooted in contemporary culture. <ZHA Close Up_MAM Shanghai>
