건물 표피와 내부 아트리움을 통해 개방감과 균형잡힌 환기 기능을 최적으로 구현해...

리데타 마켓은 이집트 남쪽의 에티오피아 연방민주공화국(Ethiopia)의 수도인 아디스아바바(Addis Ababa)에 들어선 직방형태의 쇼핑몰이다.

 

 

연면적 14.200㎡에 지상 9층 규모의 쇼핑몰은 철저히 에너지 효율화를 추구하고 있다. 에티오피아의 기후 조건에서 유리 건물은 뜨거운 열기를 조절하기 쉽지 않았기에 건물은 햇빛으로부터 보호하고 조절할 수 있는 외피 디자인으로 고안되었다. 건축가는 아프리카에서 가장 큰 개방형 시장인 올드 메르카토(Old Mercato)를 세세하게 분석하였고, 건물의 프로그램을 재설정하였다. 결과적으로 경량 조립식 콘크리트 시스템 방식을 적용하였고 외관에 에티오피안 프랙탈 패턴(Ethiopian fractal pattern)을 가미하였다. 이러한 특별한 직물 문양은 에티오피아 지역에서 흔히 찾아볼 수 있는 것으로 이를 적용한 파사드는 크고 작은 창의 반복적인 모듈이 독특한 입면 형태를 엮어주고 있다.

 

 

 

기후 조건을 고려하여 디자인된 외피 디자인으로 인해 내부 공간은 햇빛을 조절하며 내부 공간을 부드럽게 환기시켜 준다. 건물의 표피와 내부 아트리움 사이에 형성된 수동적인 환기 시스템과 제어된 자연광은 실내 공간의 개방감과 균형 잡힌 조도를 가능하게 만든다. 조각화된 건물의 볼륨은 두 개의 평행화 된 거리를 연결한다. 대각선 흐름의 연결은 보행자들로 하여금 지름길을 만들어주고 건물의 출입구에 집중시키고 있다. 이러한 경로는 건물 중앙에 자리 잡고 있는 아트리움으로 확장되고 모든 층이 서로 연결되어 있다. 수직적으로 한껏 보이드된 아트리움 주변으로 각 층마다 작은 상점의 레이아웃이 배치된다.

 

 

 

지속적인 전력공급 중단 현상은 에티오피아가 직면하고 있는 큰 장애물 중 하나이다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 지붕에는 태양전지판을 설치되어 있다. 그 하부 공간에는 엔터테인먼트 공간이 조성되었다. 지붕 또한 빗물을 모으는 역할을 맡는다. 배수와 지하 탱크에서 빗물을 모아 정수과정을 거치고 건물의 화장실과 수도에서 재활용된다.

Xavier Vilalta´s major project in Ethiopia, Lideta Mercato, has finally topped out in Addis Ababa and is set to open this summer.

 

 

The Lideta Mercato was intended to be a shopping mall just like many others in the city of Addis Ababa. A rigorous analysis has identified the main issues of the existing malls in the city, which are commonly built using glazing structures. As a result, the buildings suffer uncomfortable thermal conditions and over-illumination in the interiors. The observation of the Old Mercato, the largest open air market in Africa, was an inspiration to redefine the program of the building, conceiving a multistory contemporary market instead of a conventional shopping mall based on large shops.

 

 

 

The carved volume connects two parallel streets that define the plot of the project. This diagonal connection creates a shortcut for pedestrians and concentrates all the entrances of the building. This path extends to the inclined atrium in the middle of the building, where all floors are connected. Around this void, a different layout of small shops is placed in each floor.

 

 

 

 

The skin of the building was designed considering the local climate conditions and traditions. The façade acts as a protection from the sun, controlling the natural light and ventilation in the interior spaces. It was built using a lightweight concrete prefab system, and the shapes come from a traditional Ethiopian fractal pattern commonly found in the local fabrics. The passive ventilation system and controlled natural lightening created between the building´s skin and the interior atrium enables the interior space to have an open-air feeling and balanced illumination.

 

 

 

Constantly ceased power supply is one of the main obstacles Ethiopia is facing. This occu

rring problem was turned into an opportunity by placing circular shaped photovoltaic umbrellas in the rooftop that create nice shaded entertainment areas.

The roof also functions as a rainwater collection system by draining and storing the rainwater in the basement tanks, which later goes through a filtration process to be reused for building´s toilets and taps.
